A dedicated physician for more than 40 years, Dr. Sharon Evans Oster has distinguished herself as an expert in internal medicine and infectious diseases. At the start of her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Science, with distinction, from the University of Colorado and a Doctor of Medicine from the East Virginia Medical School in 1980. From there, she served an internship with Riverside Regional Medical Center in 1981 and a residency at East Virginia Medical School in 1983. She also completed a residency in 1983 and a fellowship in 1988, both at the VA Medical Center. During her residency, she was honored with the Resident of the Year Award by the Martinez VAMC.
Venturing into her profession, Dr. Oster began her career in teaching, having been an assistant professor of medicine for the University of California Davis from 1985 to 1989. Likewise, she worked with John Muir Hospital Walnut Creek, Sutter Solano Hospital Vallejo and Brookside/Tenet Hospital San Pablo through 1999, during which time she was also an infectious disease consultant for Doctors Hospital. In 1985, she worked at the AIDS clinic at the VA Clinic Martinez/Oakland until 1995 when she started a role as a hospitalist, doing so until 1998. Subsequently, Dr. Oster served as a co-chairman for Tenet Hospital San Pablo for one year and as the chief of the infection control committee for Doctors Hospital in 1990. From 1999 to 2006, she worked with Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
Today, Dr. Oster excels as a physician and the owner of her practice, Oster Medical Group in Boise, Idaho. Specializing in internal medicine, she also mentors through her practice and has taught students who have gone on to make medicine their career, as well as contributed to and authored multiple journal articles. To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Oster was honored with an America’s Best in Medicine Award by the American Health Council in 2019. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she has maintained membership with the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Society for Microbiology, Rocky Mountain Pus Club and her respective state and county medical associations.
Civically engaged, Dr. Oster is also an active flutist, having performed with the Canyon County Symphony Flute Orchestra and the Capital City Mulligan Band. Furthermore, she founded the Flock Walk for Cancer in 2021, has donated her time and funds to her local YMCA and has conducted missionary trips to India. Looking toward the future, she strives to consistently listen to patients to ensure she is providing the best possible care for them. She attributes her current and future success in her field to her ability to connect with her patients. In the next three to five years, Dr. Oster plans to ease into a well-deserved retirement.
